I have been a great advocate of updating gardens in the autumn as the soil is still warm, especially given our lovely summer, so any planting out beyond the usual bulbs, gets a chance to settle in and spread its roots out before the cold weather sets in. This means that those autumn planted perennials, shrubs, grasses etc have a head start when the soil warms up again in the spring, compared to plants that only go in in the Spring. So I have been delighted to be working on 5 gardens this autumn who have all decided to do exactly that. I have been working on a lovely new mixed hedge for a front garden and 4 designs for family friendly back gardens. However, now it is planting out time I am hoping that the weather holds just that little bit longer to give the plants the best start!
