What happens when you work with a garden designer?
Weβre here to help you create a beautiful outdoor space whatever the size of your garden. From design advice and consultancy through to planning and implementing the garden of your dreams for you to enjoy throughout the year.
Initial phone consultation
The first step is for Faith to have a chat with you over the phone to understand what it is that you wish to achieve in your garden. At this stage you will discuss how you want to use your garden, what horticulture expertise you do or donβt have, how much time you want to spend maintaining your garden going forward, what style of garden you like and what budget you have in mind.
All these are key points to consider both for you and Faith to ensure that the next steps in the design process work as smoothly as possible.
Site visit & proposal
The next stage is normally for Faith to come and visit your garden. This allows her to get a sense of place which is so important in designing a garden. It also allows her to have a first-hand view of the soil, the sun aspect, existing plants and any potential design challenges. Faith may take some approximate measurements and some photos of the garden at this time.
This meeting usually lasts between 45-60 minutes and also gives you another opportunity to discuss with Faith what you would like to achieve in your garden.
Garden & Planting Design Stage
Faith will work with you using a variety of methods to start formalising your thoughts and ideas and converting them into a proposed garden design. This design will be presented to you and you will have the opportunity to discuss the design in person with Faith and any modifications and adjustments that are agreed can be made at this stage.
You will then have a layout plan of the design with all the key measurements as well as construction drawings necessary for a landscape contractor and a schedule of works required.
If Faith is also engaged to produce a planting design, you will also receive the planting plans and plant list as agreed.
Construction & Implementation
You will have the drawings, plans and schedule of works to enable you to get quotes from landscaping contractors to implement the design. Faith recommends you use a contractor who is registered with one of the trade bodies like the APL or BALI. If you wish her to project manage the build this can be arranged.
Faith is also available to help with the plant sourcing and planting if you wish to take up these services.
