In late June this year, I was delighted to help another designer, Andrew Fisher Tomlin of Fisher Tomlin & Bowyer, with the planting of their Show Garden for Blind Veterans UK at Hampton Court Flower Show.
Their stunning design included wildflower meadows, fantastic trees and pergolas, vegetable gardens and sumptuous soft planting. It really is astonishing the work that goes into putting these show gardens together. The weather this year really has been a mixed bag. So I spent the first day being burnt to a crisp planting out roses, heleniums, penstemons in the main flower beds. The next day I was soaked through to the skin as we continued planting and working on the meadow and then the weather decided to calm down from its extremes to allow us to carry on working to the end.
Hopefully these photos do some justice to the finished article, and the judges obviously liked it as the garden won a prestigious Gold Medal.
